Post-Employment Support

“I’d like to share with you a little about my background.  I find Clients feel more comfortable knowing who I am and why I am a Career Consultant and Success Coach.”

- Suzanne Johnstone (Managing Director & Founder)

As a Recruiter, I’ve interviewed 100’s (perhaps 1,000’s) of Candidates.

A common complaint is “lack of support”, both by the Recruiter and the Employer.

The “Courtship” phase is over, and “In Real Life” kicks in…

If you followed the advice of Customising your Application, Researching the Role/Company and Preparing for the Interview, a Recruiter and/or Employer would have been quite eager to speak with you and singing your praises on how happy they were to have “found” you.

You may have found that you were receiving Supporting calls from your Recruiter in the initial stages, and that whilst you were undergoing Training & Induction from your Employer, you felt Supported/Happy/Hopeful

And then, within 1-3 months, the Support and “Checking In” stops…

Halfway through your 6-month Probationary Period and you may start feeling vulnerable, and in some cases, invisible

Maybe you’ve cultivated some “Work Friendships” (let’s face it, you spend more time with your Colleagues than your Family…), and others start sharing their “stuff” with you.

And likewise, you may start sharing some of your “stuff” with them.  They have essentially become part of your “Environment”.  They “get” you and their understanding validates you.

Pretty good, right?

Not always “good” and not always “right”.  In some cases, the completely “wrong” kind of validation.

Unless your Colleague is impartial, is highly motivated, has your best interest in mind and can positively support you through a successful Probationary Period, you might want to look outside of your

Work Environment for ongoing Support.

I want to be REALLY CLEAR here…

If you have a genuine concern about your workplace, the 1st Person you need to speak to is your Employer (either directly or through other appropriate channels).

You could even contact your Recruiter and run your concern past them.  Odds are that they are still servicing their Client and may be able to explain a misunderstanding or act as a

passive mediator.

Another common response I get from Candidates during the Interview Stage that have a history of “short-term” jobs, is that once they got the job, they sometimes found that the same “stuff” that made them leave their last job started again.

This response raises “Alarm Bells” for me.

Either the Candidate is choosing the wrong Jobs and can benefit from “Career Counselling & Guidance”, or they may benefit from “Success / Life Coaching”…

There are some instances where the challenges they were facing were legitimate “wrong-doings” against them, however from my OBSERVATION, there was a lot of “SELF-SABOTAGE” going on.

If they were being completely honest with themselves, they would see that they are the Common Denominator in each Job.

Here’s where I get “Coachy”…

The negative voices that I’ve just mentioned are the “BELIEFS” that start to mess with your head.

“Beliefs” are a direct result of your ENVIRONMENT (what kind of upbringing you’ve had, where you’re at and who you’re associating with).

These negative BELIEFS then lead to negative ACTIONS.  In my experience, negative ACTIONS lead to negative RESULTS.

With this negative mindset, your GOALS start to shift.  With a lack of GOALS, you lose your PURPOSE.

Positive and proactive change to your ENVIRONMENT, will lead to changing your BELIEFS, which in turn will change your ACTIONS

Positive ACTIONS lead to positive RESULTS.  Better results lead to elevated GOALS.

Elevated GOALS lead to a sense of PURPOSE.  Which leads to a better ENVIRONMENT.

STARTING TO SEE A PATTERN?

Ask yourself, how can I stop repeating negative behaviours?  How can I grow?

That's where we come in...

It's really as simple as that...
